Early life

Dr. Lily Tran was born in Saigon, to a Vietnamese, French, and Chinese family. She immigrated to the United States with her father in the mid 70s, where her dad found work in Sommerville, New Jersey. She was raised in a single parent home as her dad did the best he could to provide for her and her siblings. With slim opportunities in New Jersey, the Tran family moved to California, where she graduated valedictorian of her high school in San Jose at age 16. Being a woman minority with perfect grades and an incredible work ethic, she earned a full ride scholarship to UCLA where she received her Bachelors in Business & Finance. She was groomed by Goldman Sachs, who provided the opportunity for her to earn her Executive MBA at Anderson School of Management – UCLA. She went on to receive a 2nd Bachelors degree from USF in Organizational Behaviors and finished out her PhD at USC – Marshall School of Business-Economics, & Finance. She was top of her class and graduated with honors, summa cum laude at three different schools.


Dr. Tran obtained her series 6, 7, 26, 63, and 66 securities license and traded commodities, equities, precious metals, and oil contracts at Goldman Sachs for more than a decade before leaving the New York Office, and taking a position in San Francisco at Transamerica.

With her economics and finance background, she was recruited by Transamerica to run the global commodities desk. For a change of pace, and an opportunity to learn the retail side of the business, Dr. Tran moved to the insurance and marketing side of the company where she obtained her Accidental Health, Life, and Property & Casualty license. She quickly became the number one producer with over $1.2 Billion under management. Dr. Tran retired as a career agent at age 40 to travel the world.

Dr. Tran came out of retirement in 2013 to start a boutique financial services firm in Irvine, that specializes in helping clients such as CEO’s, business owners, and wealthy entrepreneurs, protect their assets and shelter their current income from taxes. Dr. Tran specializes in the medical profession with over 450 doctors, dentists, and surgeons as clients.

Dr. Tran also has a very successful real estate brokerage firm where she helps several banks and hedge funds manage their real estate portfolios.


Dr. Tran has described herself as an independent, and a Rockefeller Republican… conservative on fiscal issues and more liberal on social issues.


Being a minority woman, growing up in a poor, single parent home, Dr. Tran gained a passion to help less fortunate woman. She is a heavy supporter of Dress for Success a global not-for-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women, by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Dr. Tran teaches financial literacy and helps women break the cycle of poverty by having their teeth fixed, professionally dressing them, teaching them interviewing skills and motivating them to be successful.

Dr. Tran has also retired her father, and provides a rich full life for her mother in Vietnam by creating businesses and income for her entire family.

Personal life

Dr. Tran enjoys traveling and has been to over 68 countries. She enjoys classical arts, the symphony, theater, opera, and musicals. She is a widow and currently has no children. She resides in Anaheim Hills, CA and maintains a home in Laguna Beach, and enjoys an oceanfront home in La Jolla.
